Dentures are removable prosthetic replacements for missing teeth usually made from special resins and may incorporate metal for additional strength. Dentures can be either “complete” or “partial” both of which are specially designed and custom fitted to the individual. Properly made and fitted, dentures can significantly enhance the appearance and function.
Complete dentures will replace all of the upper, lower or both sets of teeth.

In this case 2 implants have been placed to help retain the lower denture. Upper jaw restored with a conventional denture (click to enlarge)
The process of making a set of dentures usually requires between 5-7 appointments, involving accurate impression taking, recording of the ‘bite’, trial fitting of the dentures , final insertion and long-term follow-up.
90 Harley Street is a specialist centre of excellence for traditional and implant retained dentures – (see our “implant” section for a short discussion on the implant procedure). Where a patient cannot tolerate or retain a denture, two or more implants can be used to effectively “anchor” the denture in place. The technique is also useful for the older, toothless patient, where the bone underlying the gums has resorbed to the extent where the bony ridges are no longer able to support a lower denture.
